This exhibition aims to present jewellery in its full diversity – across concepts, materials, craftsmanship, price ranges, and traditions. A time picture of what is there. At this point in time, we want to ask what is there under the big umbrella of the jewellery scene. In the last few years, we can recognise that contemporary approaches towards jewellery are wider than what in practice gets recognition. We want to widen the borders to involve more than what is traditionally accepted as ‘contemporary jewellery’. What is actually there? Who is included, and who is denied by the canon?

Our objective is to dissolve the hierarchical boundaries that often distinguish between all types of jewellery within established systems of evaluation. We want to ask again – what is ‘contemporary jewellery’? And maybe find a new definition that includes all the different practices of today. By inviting all scenes together, the exhibition challenges conventional ideas of value, legitimacy, and authority in the field of jewellery. We invite submissions from all makers, regardless of background, experience, or approach.As part of the exhibition, a public competition will take place.Visitors will vote for the piece they find most compelling. Through this process, the power of selection shifts away from dominant art and jewellery institutions – which traditionally define what is accepted – and instead is placed in the hands of the public; let’s see what we like!We look forward to celebrating jewellery in its most open and inclusive form.

The WearHouse is a initiative exploring and promoting innovative ideas through contemporary jewellery. Led by Yotam Bahat and Daniel Jirkovsky, it functions as an active studio and exhibition space in the heart of Amsterdam’s Red Light District, hosting exhibitions and events that encourage experimentation and dialogue.
